Hmm ... will it really shoot accurately to 1,000 meters? ;-)

I really like the AK. Some have asked why not an M4 patterned Carbine? Well, I guess I could write about that someday.
Not that there's anything wrong w/ the AR-15 variants. I just prefer the AK. Here are the specs for the WASR 10/63;

Action: Semi-Automatic
Caliber: 7.62x39mm
Barrel: 16 1/4" Chrome lined
Capacity: 30 + 1
Trigger: Tapco G2
Safety: 2 Position Lever (Safe and Fire)
Length: 34 1/4"
Weight: 7.5 lbs
Furniture: Wood

I'd like to refinish the wood and clean up some of the metal parts as well. Although these rifles are sold brand new, they're actually military surplus (that have never been fired). Mine has a serial number that dates it back to the early 70's. It's in really great condition for it's age, but I'd still like to get it looking just a little bit nicer. Hope to be able to get some of the "before" pictures up soon. The "after" pics (obviously) will be posted when the restoration is complete.

The condition of my AK is represented well in the stock photos. It came with the bayonet and sheath, as well as the cleaning rod. The only thing that was missing is the tool kit that fits into the buttstock, and they are easy and cheap to find. It also came with two 30 round metal magazines. I'll buy a few more, including a couple of the polymer mags.

One more pic showing the bayonet & sheath, although I didn't buy mine from AIM.

So, as time permits, I will do a write-up on the AK including my initial impressions, how the refinishing went, a little history on the AK47, and other interesting tidbits about the world's most popular "assault style" rifle. Remember, no rifle can be classified as a true "assault rifle" (despite what the MSM would like us to believe), unless it can fire in fully automatic or burst mode. The WASR is a semi-automatic only model, meaning that one pull of the trigger = one bullet fired. It can not be converted to full automatic, despite the inaccurate reporting from the MSM. These liberal nutjobs just never give up attacking our 2nd amendment rights {sigh}.

And for the record, any law abiding American citizen can legally own fully automatic weapons. But they're highly regulated and controlled by the NFA act of 1934 (and others). Considered to be Title II weapons, there's a ton of background checks and paperwork involved, including "taxes" that need to be paid in order to meet the federal guidlines required for private ownership. So if you don't mind spending the money, and having the ATF crawling up your ass during the 4-6 months of background checks, you can legally own fully automatic weapons. It's funny though, as I don't remember reading about any of these "requirements" in the Constitution.
