It not only contains some great forensic and ballistics data, but also dispels many of the myths that seem to be so prevalent concerning various calibers and ammunition choices. The article contains info on handgun, rifle and shotgun ammo. I highly recommend you read this article first!

Another great article along the same lines as the first, but from a slightly different perspective. Written by Massad Ayoob, who is well known in the firearms community as an LEO (Law Enforcement Officer), who has spent much of his career studying and developing data on the various caliber and ammunition choices. Also highly recommended reading.

An interesting article by Chuck Hawks on the topic of suitable SD/HD weapons. He doesn't really get into the ammunitions choices that much, but talks about the various calibers of handguns, rifles and shotguns you'd want to consider.

There's also a links section at the bottom of the page that will lead you to the same info for rifle cartridges and shotgun shells.
